The World Needs You is the motto with which the VUB calls on its community to work for a sustainable world. Around this theme VUB and Flagey, together with 8 inspiring curators, built a film festival that streams engaging films for 6 weeks after the spring break.

Corona is unfortunately not over yet, and looking for a way to offer students and our community some perspective, we came up with the idea of an online film festival. Flagey enthusiastically entered the partnership, and Pilar also cooperated.

Of course we do not want to just stream a few films. There are enough platforms for that. This is how the idea arose to work with the themes of The World Needs You. Films with an inspiring mission, in other words. Chosen by people with a mission.

Find your Purpose

Corona confronted us all with ourselves, and made us think about our purpose. Our goal, our project, our passion, our plan. In short, the broader reason why we do what we do in our lives. For six weeks, we challenge our community to share that purpose, or to go looking for it. And of course, to consider a commitment to the world in it. Because after corona, there is a lot to do.

How can you watch the films?

From 19 April to 30 May, we offer one week of films in one of our themes: Partnership, Poincaré, Peace, Prosperity, People and Planet. In that order. In student terms, that is: from the first day after the spring break until the exams.

The films are available from Monday afternoon until Sunday midnight. You can watch them whenever you want. We offer them for free, but you buy a €0 ticket to access the platform for 6 weeks.

"We need you to change the world", says Gilles Ledure, general and artistic director of Flagey in a joint announcement with our rector.
