International survey on attitudes towards urban green space

As part of a European project on urban green space led by the European Forest Institute, researchers from the VUB-Cosmopolis Centre for Urban Studies want to map citizens attitude toward urban green and how it is used in daily life by means of a large-scale survey in Europe and China.

Our society and our way of life have changed dramatically during the COVID-19 emergency. The pandemic has also put the relation between man and nature in a different light. While limiting the movement of people, the quarantine has also further emphasised the role of green space and urban forests to provide people's mental and physical well-being.

"The quarantine has put urban green spaces under a completely new light, and we would like to investigate this. What is the role of urban green spaces in dealing with these challenging times? What differences exist in terms of behaviours and actual possibilities to choose? What new attitudes have arisen during the crisis ?" explains researcher Nicola da Schio. Shedding lights on these dynamics, we hope, can help us understand what is happening today and help us chose what we want for tomorrow.

The questionnaire is available in several languages (including Dutch, French, English and German) and takes about 5-10 minutes to complete. The questionnaire is anonymous and the data is treated in an aggregated way. https://vub.fra1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_5bSsVfI1g1VgI7j

CLEARING HOUSE

The research takes place within CLEARING HOUSE, a project about urban forest and green spaces. The project is coordinated by the European Forest Institute, is realized by a wide consortium of organizations including research, policy, and NGOs in Europe and China . In Belgium, partners include the VUB, Brussels Environment (Brussels Capital Region), Horizon + (Vlaams Brabant province), and BOS+. The project has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 Research and Innovation Program under Grant Agreement 821242 and from the participating Chinese partners.
