The world needs you. hhat’s the theme of the academic opening of the Vrije Universiteit Brussel.

On Tuesday 22 September 2020, Rector Caroline Pauwels will open the academic year 2020-2021. She will do this in the Ancienne Belgique in Brussels. There she will also present her plans for her new term as rector of the VUB. Just before that, an honorary doctorate will be awarded to Koenraad Tinel and Simon Gronowski in the auditorium Q at the VUB Brussels Humanities, Sciences & Engineering Campus in Etterbeek. This is only part of the full programme, which will take place completely corona-safe at six locations in Brussels. The tickets are sold out, but everyone can follow the Academic Opening live online.

The academic opening will take place on Tuesday 22 September 2020 from 3PM onwards on six different locations. Each location represents a a 'P', based on the Sustainable Development Goals of the UN: People, Planet, Prosperity, Peace, Partnership. On top of that, there is also a P of VUB, the P of Poincaré, referring to the French philosopher Henri Poincaré.
